Law Services: Naturalization
Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is conferred upon a U.S. Legal Permanent
Resident, after they have maintained their "greencard" for the requisite period of time
(3 or 5 years, depending on how they acquired U.S. Legal Permanent Residency) and meet the general
requirements for eligibility. Such general requirements include:
- A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States.
- Residence in a particular USCIS District prior to filing.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government.
- Good moral character.
